Dusting
- Privacy shears may be feather dusted or vacuumed at a low suction
setting.
Spot Cleaning - Spots or stains can
be lightly rubbed clean with a damp sponge and mild soap.
Chemical Cleaners - To avoid discoloration
of the material, we recommend against the use of chemical cleaners.
Steam Cleaning - Most privacy shears
can be steam cleaned (some horizontal privacy shears cannot). Shears
should remain hanging to minimize handling, wrinkling or puckering.
For a deep cleaning, professional steam cleaning with a portable
steam machine is best. Using a drapery head, apply 65 to 85 pounds
of pressure and a maximum of 102º F is recommended. After deep
cleaning, remove wrinkles.
Wrinkle and Crease Removal - Apply
warm distilled or bottled water to a clean white cloth. Support
the fabric from behind using another clean white cloth that is dry.
Use a gentle blotting action to apply the wet cloth to the wrinkle
or crease on the sheer fabric. Let area air dry.
Ultrasonic Cleaning - Privacy shears
can be cleaned ultrasonically by a professional. When choosing an
ultrasonic cleaning technician for your privacy shears, be sure
to ask:
- Have you ultrasonically cleaned privacy sheers for other customers?
- Do you have a proper equipment and privacy shear product knowledge?
The ultrasonic cleaning process requires the sheers to be removed
from the home and transported back to the cleaning facility. And,
sheers should be rolled on a tube during transport to minimize
wrinkling and damage.
- Will the temperature of the bath water exceed 90º F? If
the water temperature is higher than the recommendation, oxidation
will occur in the vanes.
- Is your tank long enough to accommodate the length of the sheer?
(Very Important). The tank used should be at least as long as
the height of the sheer to allow for cleaning without folding
and wrinkling the vanes.
